Bangkok Thailand, 17 November 2009 Mazda Sales (Thailand) unveiled the long-awaited New Mazda2 five-door hatchback in Thailand as the first country in the ASEAN region. Superstar Pae Arak Amornsuppasiri is selected as New Mazda2 brand ambassador for Thailand launch.  The New Mazda2 inherits the fun-to-drive Zoom-Zoom DNA that is common to all Mazda vehicles, offering harmony between sports styling, excellence safety and quality and dynamic performance.   Touted as the worlds best sports car, the Mazda 2s prestigious accolades include the World Car of the Year award, plus 50 worldwide awards and a maximum 5-star safety rating from Euro NCAP. Prices start from Baht 535,000.    

John Ray, Managing Director, Mazda Sales Thailand, revealed that we take great pride in the New Mazda2 sports car. The car is recognized as the Japanese car that beat over 39 models of European cars in terms of quality. The Mazda2 has posted highly successful global sales since its first launch and has so far gained 51 awards from across the world, including the World Car of the Year 2008. This is the first time for consumers in Thailand and the ASEAN region to experience the Mazda2.  We are confident that the car will mark a major turning point for Mazda to emerge as a top car brand among Thai consumers. This is simply because of the outstanding design and quality attributes of Mazda as previously seen in Mazda3. New Mazda2 is designed to be a sports car that truly meets the urban lifestyle needs and is also manufactured in Thailand.

As the most highly-anticipated car of the year, the New Mazda2 sports car will mark new era of Mazdas history in Thailand. The sense of refinement can be perceived from both exterior and interior with stunning design, sporty and athletic exterior, exceptionally generous standard equipment, quality craftsmanship with high standard of materials.  Lightweight technology utilized in the development of the sports car has been applied to the New Mazda2 to significantly reduce the car weight, making the car 100 kilograms or 30% lighter than the previous model. The results are better running and breaking performance as well as lower fuel consumption. The New Mazda2 features a highly-regarded suspension system to ensure its original Zoom-Zoom driving pleasure.

Apart from class-leading quality and performance, the readiness of Mazda dealership network and service centers, currently reaching 104 nationwide, is also a major factor in supporting the sales of the New Mazda2 and ensuring long-term after sales service availability for customers.  The dealership showroom revamp, which started last year, is currently almost completed in all dealers. Mazda dealership network decided to invest an amount of baht 221 million to give full support in sales, spare parts and after-sales services for the New Mazda2. Positive feedbacks from the recent ASEAN B-Car dealer launch and test drive of the New Mazda2 in Pattaya strongly proved the cars outstanding performance.

The marketing strategy focuses on its quality attributes and image as the best sports car in B-car segment, which still has a plenty of room to grow and yet to be dominated by any brand. The New Mazda2 offers a new alternative for consumers who are looking for a sports car with the standard quality of larger car, with outstanding fuel efficiency and uncompromised safety and driving pleasure.  The car is also the winner of World Car of the Year award and scores maximum five stars safety rating on the Euro NCAP standard. The New Mazda2 features MZR 1,500 CC engine, offering outstanding driving dynamics for both city and highway while generating a strong and continuous torque at low rpm to ensure prompt response and fuel efficiency.

Sporty elements are visible all over the exterior from front grille and lower front grille, sports front bumper, projector head lamps and fog lamps, Sports Package front and rear bumpers and the side skirts, rear sports spoiler with brake light, sports suspension and 16-inch aluminum alloy wheels.

The interior is spacious and comfortable, with audio remote control in steering wheel, CD/MP3 player along with an AUX jack for plugging in IPod to use with the cars audio system. Other standard equipment include foldable rear seats, smart keyless entry and start system by just pushing Engine Start button, anti-theft immobilizer system, 

The MZR 1,500cc, 103 Hp power unit, with inline-four-cylinder, DOHC, 16-valve engine is Octane91, E10 and E20 compatible, offering maximum torque of 135Nm/4,000rpm with key features including Sequential Valve Timing (S-VT) system, Tumble Swirl Control Valves (TSCVs) in the intake manifold, drive-by-wire electronic throttle for enhanced responsiveness. New Mazda2 has an Electric Power Assist Steering (EPAS) system which delivers precise handling with a minimum turning circle of 4.9 meters and ready for 91-octane gasoline and gasohol E10, E20. The well-regarded suspension system is specially designed to offer riding smoothness and steadiness. Safety wise, the New Mazda2 comes with dual front airbags, and incorporates Mazdas Triple H safety cell and ultra-high tensile steel, resulting in lightweight, high-strength body structure capable of absorbing and dispersing impact energy in the event of a collision and helps prevent cabin deformation. Other safety measures include, SRS two front airbags, ABS with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD).

The price range of the New Mazda2, starting at baht 535,000 for the 1,500cc model and 690,000 for the top model, provides customers unmatched value considering the choice of standard equipment, safety features and accessories offered.  The New Mazda2 is available in four variations, as follows:
