Mazda strengthens lineup with all-new Mazda3 1.6Land Mazda2 facelift best in class

22.05.2012

Bangkok, Thailand, 22 May, 2012 Mazda Sales (Thailand) Co. Ltd. is strengthening its product range in Thailand with the introduction of the Mazda3 1.6-liter in both sedan and hatchback body type, as well as the facelift Mazda2 that comes with a higher equipment level. The new models are expected to help Mazda to continue its momentum and achieve record sales of 60,000 units in Thailand this year. The all-new Mazda3 1.6L maintains the unique Mazda philosophy with the Make Your Mark concept, while the Mazda2 now features best-in-class equipment level.

Mr. Choichi Yuki, Managing Director of Mazda Sales (Thailand) Co. Ltd., said that after recovering from various situations, Thailands automobile market is moving ahead, whether in the pickup truck, sub-compact and compact passenger car segments. In 2011 a total of 354,000 passenger cars were sold in Thailand, with 95,000 units being compact cars. This is the second-largest segment in the passenger car market, and both Mazda3 2.0 models were able to win 5,476 orders last year without new 1.6L model. The introduction of the 1.6-liter version will help us achieve the 5,000-unit target for the Mazda3 2nd half this year, he said.

The compact car market (C-segment) is a highly contested market due to the large number of brands present. The market is further divided into two sub segments comprising of 1,600-1,800cc and 2,000cc vehicles. The Mazda3 2.0 has been the leader in its segment for a long period of time and was responsible in giving Mazda a 40% market share in 2,00cc sub segment. However, the 1,600cc-1,800cc market is very large and is a market where we can expand our customer base again. Customers in this market have high expectations in design, driving performance, value for money, comfort and convenience features, quality of the materials, safety as well as low maintenance cost, fuel consumption and attractive pricing,
he said.

Mr. Yuki said the Mazda3 stands out from the competition thanks due to its sporty design that breaks away from the luxury theme usually offered in the compact car market. This design appeals to customers in the premium compact car market, and the introduction of the 1.6-liter version would help accelerate sales for the Mazda3 model more swiftly, he said.

The Mazda3 1.6L is expected to help drive Mazda towards success due to its design and development philosophy. The eye-catching sporty styling reflects an active lifestyle and unique character, and apart from outstanding exterior-interior package, it also comes with the Zoom-Zoom performance. The Mazda3 1.6L comes with important safety functions along with various comfort and convenience features. They include sports bucket seats, dual-zone climate control system, 4-beam projector headlights, foglamps with diffuser, Multi Information Display (MID), multi-function steering wheel, 16-inch alloy wheels and high-quality materials that are superior to the competition. Mazdas innovative design and weight-saving technologies also help squeeze out the best performance from the Mazda3 1.6L, which is available with three equipment levels.

Mr. Yuki added, The Mazda3 was first introduced in Thailand in November 2004 and is a highly important model that is destined to change the history of Mazda. Accumulated sales have reached 35,000 units in Thailand and over 3,000,000 units globally. This is the second-generation of the Mazda3, which as already won a total of 133 awards worldwide. It also achieves 5-star frontal crash safety rating from the United States, Europe and Australia, which are all major markets for Mazda. We believe that the success of the new Mazda3 will represent an important turning point that helps Mazda to grow with increased strength in Thailand. This year Mazda plans to sell as much as 60,000 vehicles in Thailand, with Bt40,000 being passenger cars and 20,000 units of the BT-50 pickup truck.

Marketing Director Ms. Sureetip La-Ongthong Chomthongdee added that competition in the sub-compact market is also intense. Mazda has adjusted our strategy once again to help freshen up the Mazda2 and maintain its popularity by introducing additional best-in-class features. The added features come both inside and out, and helps to stands out in the market, to raise the profile of the Mazda2 above others in the B-segment with a stylish and sporty character, she said.

New features for the Mazda2 include 4-beam halogen projector headlights, new 16-inch alloy wheels, signal lights on side view mirrors, sports black fascia, leather upholstered seats and door panels, new fabric upholstery design, CD/MP3 receiver with black piano decoration, USB/AUX input, newly-designed controls on multi-function steering wheel as well as two new colors Aquatic Blue and Arctic White. The Mazda2 comes in both Sports Hatchback and Elegance 4-door sedan body styles, as well as dual front airbags, 4W-ABS brakes and EBD in every model.

The communication between the product and the consumer is very important, and for the Mazda2, the use of presenters helps relay the true character of the product as well as reach target customer groups. We have extended dual contract with our two presenters Nadech Kukimiya for the Mazda2 Elegance sedan and Arak Amornsupasiri for the Mazda2 Sport 5-door hatchback, she added.

The all-new Mazda3 1.6L is available in 7 colors arctic white, black mica, true red, highlight silver, metropolitan grey, aurora blue and sparkling gold. Mazda is also offering a starting price of just Bt755,000.
